CUESTA LOEB GRASS IT GROWS

“Que sera; whatever will be, will be” - a well known saying at the heart of Los Angeles-via-New York artist Cuesta Loeb’s anthem of self-acceptance ‘Grass It Grows’. Flowing with a dreamy pop melody, the lo-fi recording is dipped in ‘90s grunge and shoegaze reminiscent of Warpaint. Her vocals are sweet and slightly folky, the perfect counterpart to this track’s guitar grinding and drum punching aesthetic. With an unpolished production ‘Grass It Grows’ colours outside of the lines, which is a vital point for Loeb to make. “We are often told where to go, what to do, and how to think. But these rules are manmade, arbitrary and often times unnecessary. No one tells grass how to grow. It just does, free of any force or pressure.” As a classically trained artist, it became important to leave traditional parameters behind in order to find her own voice, which is exactly what she did in 2015. ‘Grass It Grows’ is Cuesta Loeb’s fourth single under this new project, so be sure to take a retrospective listen to the rest.  - HT
